JUSTYNA NERYNG

Justyna Neryng is a Polish born, self-taught photographic artist, with a background in fashion and painting. She works with analog and digital cameras with a particular interest in portraiture and the human body. She was introduced to photography at a very young age by her Father, who taught her the physics of photography. Justyna spent most of her childhood taking pictures with him and developing them in the darkroom at home , while roaming the forests of the small village she grew up in. As an adult, a mother and an immigrant to Britain, her photography has flourished into a substantial body of portraiture. Perhaps the most evocative of her works are her exquisitely emotive self-portraits that seem to carry the dark spirit of the forest from her childhood as well as potentially bearing the scars of modern womanhood. She has won several awards and had her work exhibited and recognised by the Royal Photographic Society. She lives and works in the United Kingdom.

KIMBERLY SCHNEIDER

Kimberly Schneider is a Visual Artist, Master Printer, and Educator, who has been dedicated to the art of the handmade (darkroom) print for the past 20+ years. She not only prints all of her own work by hand, but also teaches (both privately and via Penumbra Foundation), as well as prints for other film-based artists and enthusiasts. Specializing in true infrared film, spiritual landscapes, and experimental photograms, she holds a BFA in photography (and minor in philosophy) from Colorado State University; while both are deeply intertwined, she identifies as a Printer more than anything else. She began making (experimental) photograms in June 2020, due to having an unfinished darkroom at the time of the shutdown. Despite having a fully functional darkroom a few months later, she spent the bulk of the past two years refining and perfecting her techniques, while creating what has since become a trilogy of cameraless work.

ROBIN HUDSON

Robin Hudson was born in Middlesbrough in 1959 and has always lived in Yorkshire. He didn’t start to take photography seriously until the advent of digital cameras in the late 1990’s when he bought a Sony DSC1. He immediately realised the potential of this new, ‘instant gratification’ technology and thereafter regularly upgraded his kit. In 2009 he was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to take an extended break from work so having dropped a few hints with his colleagues, he received as a leaving present a copy of Charlie Waite’s ‘The Making of Landscape Photographs’. From that point on he was hooked and so began his long, slow struggle to succeed in landscape photography. He soon discovered that it’s not as easy as it looks but in 2014 he was lucky enough to have his image ‘Winskill Tree’ included in Landscape Photographer of the Year competition book and published as one of 9 images from the book selected for inclusion in the Sunday Times Magazine.

JENS MATHIASSON

Jens Mathiasson is 45 years old and works in the process industry. He lives in the archipelago in Sweden on an island called Tjörn with his family (whom most have been seen in his images). He picked up photography around 2010, but fell in love with portraits in around 2018. In the beginning he would take images of just about anything. And did so for a number of years, leaning more and more towards landscape photography. But he sort of fell out of love with it. Jens thinks he realized he wasn’t really any good at landscapes. Plus the images people took at the time were absolutely stunning and his were not. He almost quit. But took it up in 2017 again when he bought a new mirrorless camera. And then and there is where his portrait journey started.
