“Saxman, French Quarter, New Orleans” by Joseph Crachiola

I was photographing in Jackson Square in the French Quarter of New Orleans on a foggy morning when I encountered this street musician. The square is in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter and is a gathering place for musicians, street performers and tourists. I made quite a few exposures from different perspectives and we had a pleasant conversation. I think this image was among the strongest.

What do you think are the TWO most impactful features that make your image a good photograph? Don’t be shy!

The fog and the soft morning light lent an air of mystery to the photograph. The musician leaning against the street lamp adds to the strength of the composition.

If you would be able to make this photo once again, what would be the ONE thing you would like to do better or different?

Nothing.

What a wonderful picture! For me, the irregularity of the light posts emphasizes the history of the setting, and the impact that time and traffic have had.

What an excellent shot. New Orleans is such a rich please for photographers and you just happened to get it at the right time.
