Kay Gibbons Buckwell is an Australian fine-art photographer based in Geelong, Victoria. Growing up around Avalon Beach and Lara, she developed a deep appreciation for the natural world, which profoundly influences her work. In her youth, Kay pursued photography, singing, and painting, leading to a 30-year career as a professional singer-songwriter. During this time, she also completed courses in photography, professional writing and editing, and interior design.
Kay’s artistic journey is enriched by her passion for color psychology and metaphysics, as well as her extensive practice in healing modalities and meditation. Her work encourages viewers to find gratitude in the ordinary and to appreciate the rhythm of life in the everyday.
Throughout her career, Kay has received notable accolades, including placing sixth in the ‘People’ category of the 2024 Australian Photography Awards for her project “The Art of Play.” Her series “Under the Streetlamps” was also recognized in the ‘Travel’ category in 2023. I love your work, Kay, and thoroughly enjoyed your conversation with Scott. It was refreshing to me to listen to someone who seems to get as much joy and fulfillment out of photography as I do. Aren’t we fortunate? Can’t wait to see what you do next.
